Why Should I Budget In “Getting Ready” Photos?

Getting ready photos are like the calm before the storm.

Your wedding day won’t get a re-do (at least, I hope). The thing that makes wedding photography so special is that it’s a day in your life that you won’t ever be able to duplicate.  The genuine and raw emotions of that day are independent to any other major event you will probably go through.

So how do you know that “getting ready” or “detail shots” are right for you?

The simple thing is, getting ready photos may not be for everyone.  Some people just aren’t that into it, and that’s totally okay.  But for others, you will want to remember the look on your parents’ faces when they saw you all dolled up that day.  You will want to see your groom running his fingers through his hair with anticipation and nervousness and excitement all at the same time!   You will want remember how you looked out the window and took a deep breath, and knew you were making the best decision of your life to tie the knot with your perfect match.

Remember the little things before they become forgotten

You meticulously picked out all the little details on your wedding day because it meant something to you.  The flowers, candles, even the color of your nails.  It was all a process, and documenting those little details will help the memories of the day with you through your life and your marriage.

It will make your wedding day feel like a complete story being visually told.

Anyone can take a picture – most all of us have access to a camera 24-7 with our phones and other electronics.  It is a completely different experience to have a photographer — someone who, before this day, was a stranger to you — take photos of you in this way.  You will probably be surprised to see yourself go through so many ranges of emotions pre-ceremony, and you will REALLY find something special with seeing that process take place in your photos.  When you look back on these pictures years and years later, it will be like a photo-journalistic story, with a beginning, middle, and glamorous end.

I am a weddingengagementlifestyle, and event photographer based out of Norfolk.  I started my business in 2007 while living in South Florida and took a hiatus in 2010-2014 after doing a tour in the US Navy where I traded shooting film to shooting guns.  Now a separated veteran, I am back in the grind serving Hampton Roads and the rest of Virginia doing what I am absolutely most passionate about.  Thanks for taking the time to read my post and I hope you found the information helpful!
